Tack it in place at the corner with the end flush with the end of the roof and the bottom edge of the roll right along the bottom of the roof.
How to lay felt paper on a roof.
Working with a helper install the bottom piece of felt so it extends 1 or 2 inches below the sill plate.
Climb onto the roof and lay a second strip of tar paper above the first strip overlapping it by about 5.
Roll out a length of 8 feet or so.
The roofing felt should be applied in layers that overlap.
As you work the paper can be tacked down in the center so it won t blow away.
At an inside corner use a straight board to hold the felt tight to the corner as you staple.
Use a hammer stapler to tack it in place.
Step 4 over the peak.
How to lay felt on a flat roof.
Step 1 prep work.
Add only enough staples to hold the paper in place to maintain its waterproof integrity.
Allow for a inch overhang of paper down each side of the roof when unrolling the paper.
Snap a chalkline 32 inches above the top edge of the wsu or use the lines on the felt as guides.
Roll out the felt eliminating creases or bubbles and drive at least three staples every foot.
If you use the lines as guides for installing shingles measure up from the drip edge to confirm that you stay parallel.
Step 2 placing the felt.
This overhang will ensure water will not enter underneath the paper getting trapped on top of the wood roof planks.
Start at the bottom edge of the roof and roll the paper roll out toward the peak.
Check that it is level and aligned with the bottom of the house.
Start at the bottom of the roofline and work up so any water that gets through the roofing material will shed down the tar paper and will not go under it.
Start the roof felt at one bottom corner of the roof.
