To use the cord follow these steps.
How to release garage door spring.
The garage door emergency release cord is usually a red rope with a red pull handle and you will find it on the opener rail near your door.
Manually move the garage door and return to down position.
Pull the emergency release cord toward the door.
Once you are done maneuvering your garage door and are ready to re engage the automatic door opener please return the garage door back to the down position.
Step 2 will allow you to freely move the garage door open and close.
Garage doors even thin metal doors are very heavy and can come down with great force without the springs carrying the bulk of their weight.
When the time comes to reconnect your garage door simply pull the emergency release cord back toward the door to re engage the spring lever.
Hold the garage door in this position by attaching a c clamp to the track at a point below the lowest door roller wheel.
You will hear a loud click when the trolley attaches back to the carriage.
Holding the handle at the end of the cord pull until the release lever locks.
First of all lock the door in the closed position.
You must release the tension on the garage door springs before attempting adjustment or replacement.
Position a 6 foot step ladder at each side of the garage door.
Have a friend on one side of the door and you on the other side.
You can either use the locks installed on the door or use clamps or locking pliers as shown in figure 1.
Pull up on the pry bars.
When you have finished with your adjustments be sure to remove anything that was securing the door in place pull on the emergency cord to release the spring and reattach the door to the opener and plug in your automatic door opener.
To remove extension springs open the garage door all the way and attach c clamps or locking pliers to the tracks on both sides to prevent the door from rolling down once the springs are removed.
Then block the spring shaft with locking pliers leaning against the wall header as shown in figures 2 and 22.
Insert each pry bar under the corner of the door between the door and the floor.
You can then manually move the door to the opener carriage or use the doors remote and it will connect automatically.
