Turn off the wall.
Remove the cap or tab on the light if your fixture has it.
Use pliers to twist the locknut on the end cap counterclockwise until it pops off.
Pull the cables all the way out and joint them using crimps heat sleeve over.
Remove the thumb nuts that hold the light fixture to the mounting plate.

Unscrew the light fixture from the mounting plate attached to the electrical box.
Lower the existing fixture off the wall or ceiling by taking out the mounting screws holding it to the electrical box exposing the wiring behind it.
Turn on the light switch then flip off breakers in the main panel until the light goes off.
Open the fuse box and locate the breaker that corresponds to the circuit that.
Check the ends of the fixture for metal components holding it in place.
