One is to use urethane roof cement which has better protection against ultraviolet rays than common asphalt or plastic roof cement. The first step in the repair of any metal roofing material will involve cleaning the surface. Obtain some roofing mesh and cut out 2 identical square patches. Smoothly spread it over the hole or damaged area using a putty knife.

You can scratch around the hole with steel wool as abrading it will help it take the adhesive better. A hole in a metal roof system can be caused by any number of sources the hole may be from deterioration and rust or it may be from something falling onto the roof surface such as a large branch. Press one patch over the roofing cement. Install a 2 by 4 brace under a small hole that extends three times the width of the opening.

Apply the cement carefully with a putty knife until you ve sealed the hole completely. Patch the nail or screw holes by slipping a piece of roof flashing underneath the shingle. Use a jigsaw to cut a rounded shape from the plywood to the exact size of the hole. Another option is to use a self stick waterproof flashing membrane like the one shown at right.

Hold it against the inside of the plywood by pulling up through the hole while driving deck screws through the roof and into the brace. Cut the piece large enough to cover the hole and 6 inches of the surrounding roofing each way using sheet metal cutters. Clean the surface of the roof using a simple cleaner removing any dirt film and algae that have grown. Urethane roof cement is an excellent product that can help you patch holes on corrugated metal roofing.

Next cut a patch from a sheet of metal roof panel slightly larger than the size of the hole that needs to be patched. Then scrub the surface where the repair will take place with a wire brush to scruff it which will help the sealant fuse to the metal.
