Check the alignment of the deadbolt against the strike on the jamb if the lock is difficult to turn when the door is closed or the door doesn t lock at all.

Use a file to widen the hole on the strike or remove the strike with a screwdriver and reposition it on the jamb.
See if this retracts the handle.
Remove the handles including the thru spindle.
Tying this rope from one doorknob to the other gives the door an anchor.
Take the handles knobs off of the door.
Use a tool a flathead screwdriver will work to twist within the gap the thru spindle inserts into.
Clump together a handful of toothpicks the amount of toothpicks will depend on the size of your keyhole.
Start by removing the door handle.

Close the door and use your hammer to pound the nails into the door frame at a diagonal angle along the edge of the door.
